I might have my head in the clouds, but turns out, it’s a pretty good vantage point.
What do you see when you look around you? Seriously, look around you. What do you see? Now close your eyes. What do you hear? What do you smell? Feel? Is there a breeze? Which way is it blowing and does it carry any scents along the way?
We see, but we do not observe.
Sherlock Holmes often commented to Watson that he saw everything that was necessary for detective work, just the same as Holmes did. But that he did not observe. The same I think is true for most people, but not just regarding detective work. Think of comedians. Really good comedians don’t need to be foul mouthed; they just need to notice the obvious and see it from a different angle than the rest of us. Most everything is funny depending on how you look at it. Most everything has a pattern if you know how to look. In fact, reality changes a good deal depending on how you look at it. Not truth, mind you. It stays the same. But the world really becomes a much larger place if you learn to look from a different point of view and take the time to observe your surroundings.
